What to look out for in a Web Hosting Company

What to look out for in a Web Hosting Company

Today we take a quick look at the ever-expanding market of “Web Design” and “Web Hosting.” We do not intend to recommend one of them over the other, but we will hopefully help you make some sense of what has, over the years, become a nearly saturated market.

There are virtually thousands of web hosting companies out in website land today, making it almost impossible for the average person to know which website hosting company provides not only an excellent hosting solution but, critically, for the end-user, at an affordable cost.  We are always looking for Deals of the day.

So what does a web hosting company do? If you do not have a hosting web service, your website will never be seen by anyone. They provide a cost, space on a server that allows both individuals and organizations to make their website accessible throughout the World-Wide-Web.

Fees for this service can range from as low as $10.00 per month but can be as expensive as $50.00 per month. It depends on just what you want. If you are only planning to create a simple home page for a personal blog, go ahead and get the cheapest option. You can also find a web hosting company that, in return for displaying their adverts, offers their services free of charge; however, the bandwidth of these hosting services is minimal, so both speed and connectivity are a bit hit miss at best.

If you plan to run an online business, then free web hosting services are not for you as server downtimes (commonly incurred when you exceed your bandwidth) are standard.

Next, you should look at what your web host can accommodate, do not wait until you have signed up and paid your money, do your homework first.

Examples to look out for when choosing a web hosting company include; Can they accommodate all required to operate under e-commerce situations, storefronts, blogs, wireless capabilities, forums, online chat rooms, and anything that will help make your website get noticed.

As many of us did when first starting out, do not make the fatal mistake of starting too small. Remember to make a bit of money. You have to spend a little cash. Nothing is free, and yes, do not be fooled into thinking you will be rich overnight, as you will not. Many multi-millionaires of today will, if they are honest, readily inform you that they have gone bust during the initial stages of setting up their e-commerce business, so be careful. Always check what you will get for your monthly subscription before even contemplating making that first step, designing your website.

Learn your trade! Most of us know that tremendous advances have been made in home computing in recent years. These advances enable almost anyone to set up an e-commerce business to rival any other company on the internet.

However, many of them clearly have not done their homework and have just jumped in with both feet.

With the above in mind, it may surprise many that you can learn your trade from one of the internet’s most significant companies and, while doing so, make just a little bit of money.

Google Domains, for example, offer domains from as low as $19.19 per year, hosting included. I used this method to learn how to set up a small eCommerce business, which in turn helped me solve the mysteries behind search engine optimization, or SEO as it is more commonly known. I also, while doing this, learned how to write substantial keyword density articles, all designed once again to attract visitors to my little website blog, a blog created using the free Google blogging platform “Blogger.”

Google Blogger has its limitations; however, it allowed me to find all those free tools available. Tools like Google Search Console,” Google Analytics,” and “Google Domains,” all of which are free, although some “Web Hosting Companies” will charge you an arm and a leg for them.

Yes, for me, this was my training ground. It was also my first foray into eCommerce, an incursion that I look back on with great pride and happiness today. Without using these free platforms, I would not have been able to work alongside some of the largest eCommerce businesses located around the world.

OK, now that we have learned the ins and outs of web hosting, and have tried it out at no personal cost by using the free platforms as set out above, now is the time to find that creative “Domain Name” that Website Builder” and of course that all-important “Hosting Service.”

The examples I give below are purely from my own experiences. I am sure some of my colleagues will have their recommendations.

Finding a “Domain Name” is, of course, your first step. Have a long think and first figure out what your eCommerce business will be about, then pop over to Google Domains and find a Domain name that reflects as closely as possible the flavor of your website.

For example, if your website will be about “Dogs,” then make sure the name reflects this. Sometimes this can be tedious as most top-level domain names may have already been taken up. However, with a bit of patience, you will find one.

Next, find a “Webdesign” company. I like to use “WIX” as they have plenty of templates and an effortless drag and drop website design service, with no coding required.

As for hosting the website, you can include this with your annual “WIX” website design subscription, and there you have it, you are all ready to go and join the world of eCommerce. Let me wish you all the best of luck. For me, it has been a journey of discovery. It has also given me pride every time I see my finished product online.

Well, folks, it means a lot to me to know that you have taken the time to read this short narrative, and I wish you all the luck and much success in all your future endeavors.

So on behalf of the Vandergraph family and every employee at Bargainbrute.com, we “Thank you for shopping with us today” and hope to see you all tomorrow for another short narrative.
