- Traveling Wilbury’s
The Traveling Wilbury’s was an English band that made quite an impression on many people worldwide. The Traveling Wilburys had a quartet of very talented individuals who changed rock music forever with their unique music and style. The Traveling Wilburys are an English-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty. They gained their musical inspirations from gospel music, blues, rock n roll, country music, and they were known for their original and diverse song selection.
In the mid-1980s, The Traveling Wilburys released their debut album titled Crucify Yourself. While it did not reach the success that the group expected, it still reached a respectable amount of sales. The album included several classic songs such as Hotel California by Bob Dylan, and Here, There Are Many Things by George Harrison. They also recorded Roses Are Free, Take It Easy by Roy Orbison, I Remember You by Jeff Lynne, and I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles by Tom Petty, and the Expand rings of Space by Roy Orbison.
The Traveling Wilburys also had a series of side projects such as the pop/rock opera revival Weill’s Angels and a film of the same name. Their first album that they released in the United Kingdom was entitled Crucify Yourself. Following its success, they went on to record Under Your Spell and After the Gold Rush. Roy Orbison had a hand in the writing and recording of some of the tracks on that’s All Right, Some Things Never Die, Dust in the Air, and Hey Jude. He also played keyboards on some of the tracks.
- Tom Petty
Certain things remain constants in rock music—namely the guitar solo and, more specifically, the drum solo. If Tom Petty and The Yardbirds had a child, it’s fair to say they would have been quite a popular band. That’s because they had one significant hit, “I’m a Country Boy,” and the guys made sure that the song was used over again in their repertoire. The same thing can be said for the song “Mystery Train,” one of my favorites from The Blue Room Boys.
In terms of the guitar solo, those rock guitars that Tom Petty and The Yard birds used were unique. There were no double-neck guitars, and the guitars were all one-piece instruments. Some of the best rock guitar solos in history can be heard on the album cover of A Day in the Life of a Young Man. A Day in the Life of a Young Man was also the first single that The Yard birds ever performed, and that track remains one of my favorite solo cuts.
One other thing that I find interesting about Tom Petty and The yard birds is that he seemed to understand the importance of the drum kit as a song instrument. Drummers in rock music, such as Neil Young, have always used the metronome to make sure they are on the beat. Tom Petty certainly did not, which became very apparent to me when I saw him perform live. The crowd would let him play any rhythm that he wanted, and his drum set was always impeccable.
- Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison first gained worldwide popularity during the early 1960s due to such albums as What’s His Name? and Grey Gardens. This talented musician became known for his powerful vocals and intricate songwriting style. Many critics described his music as having similar characteristics to folk, creating a sound that could not be categorized into any single category. Roy Orbison’s influence on today’s music can be heard in the songs of artists such as Paul McCartney, J.Lo, Macy Gray, Eric Clapton, and Amy Winehouse. He has also created and managed his solo career, which has produced several duets with Beatles legends John Lennon and George Harrison.
Roy Orbison trivia will show that while he had a prominent guitar role in his early days, his musical interests were more centered on jazz, folk, blues, classical, pop, and even pop-rock. Some of his greatest songs were produced by fellow country musicians such as Boz Scaggs and Merle Travis. One of Roy’s early musical interests was classical music, which led him to learn the piano while studying in New York City. Bob Dillon has had an incredible career. He’s trained with some of the best in the world, including Bruce Lee and Jet Li. He’s also spent a lot of time in the military, including Vietnam and Laos tours under the famed General George S. Patton’s guidance.
Bob was a proponent of Bruce Lee’s teaching and mentoring, and he saw first-hand the power that martial arts could have in uniting the entire nation. His own life experience also comes into play when he discusses the importance of keeping your spirit up despite what life may throw your way. He gives excellent advice to students at the Tae Kwon Do school in Hawaii. He talks about how even the most seemingly small martial arts struggles can be turned into huge successes if you keep your chin up, work hard and never give up.

- George Harrison
George Harrison was an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter who achieved worldwide popularity as the Beatles’ leading guitarist. This was also where he first met John Lennon.
George’s drug use would take center stage in his life later in life. He tried to start a career professionally as a rock bass player, but he was turned away by a music agent because of his drug use and illegal drug paraphernalia. He then turned to something that would better suit his needs: acting. His first significant breakout role was in Guys and Girls’ musical revival as one of the three main characters. After this, he went on to star in various other films, including Rosemary Clooney’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, George Hamilton’s My Fair Lady, and Albert Brooks’ You Can’t Take It with You.
- Prince
Prince Rogers Nelson, better known as Prince Rogers, is an American singer, songwriter, multi-Instrumentalist, vocalist, and actor. He is widely considered one of the most original artists of his generation. From his early days, as a teenager recording lives into his late 20s, Prince has honed his craft and has gone from a rapping teenager to an internationally renowned musician who continues to tour to this day. With such diverse talents, one would expect Prince Rogers Nelson to be a mainstream act like the Rolling Stones, but instead, he veered away from that path and has remained true to himself.
Born in Harlem, New York, Prince Rogers Nelson grew up listening to the records of more established musicians such as Muhammad Ali, Fats Domino, Stevie Wonder, King Curtis, and more. However, he eventually went on to become known as one of hip hop’s first breakout stars. His unique vocal style is what is still popular today, even outside of hip hop. His music has also influenced artists such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Jay Z.
Because of his vocal style, Prince Rogers Nelson receives serious attention these days, even from those who do not usually listen to hip-hop or rock. His discography includes several well-regarded projects such as Nothing Whimsical, Black Doe, Purple Suit, and Purple Demon. These and other projects have led to multiple awards from various music industry outlets, including Grammies and MTV awards. Because of this, Prince Rogers Nelson has made a name for himself as an independent music artist and is constantly touring and recording. Even when he is not on the stage, Prince Rogers Nelson creates music and consistently brings fresh and new music to audiences.
- Gordon Lightfoot
Gordon Lightfoot, CC OOnt, is a Canadian folk musician and singer who achieved worldwide success in folk, classical, and even folk rock, though other styles influence his music. He is perhaps best known for his extensive use of acoustic guitar. However, he has also used other musical instruments such as the harmonica, banjo, bass clarinet, fiddle, upright bass, and many others. He is attributed to helping to shape the folk-rock sound of the early 1960s and the late ’70s. His acoustic guitar ruminates much of the music of his time.
Gordon Lightfoot played an important role in the development of folk and country music in Canada. He sang and wrote with traditional folk instruments such as the lute, mandolin, fiddle, jingle stick, recorder, harmonica, and even the ukulele. Some of his most well-known songs are “We Walk This Ringing Road,” “I Remember You,” “I’m Only Sleeping,” “You’re Going to Leave Your Lover,” “Bodhisattva,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” His recordings with the Rascals, the Roxytones, and the Beach Boys are most respected.

The most famous guitar player in the world is also the most legendary guitar player of all time. This is partly because he released only one album – “REBOOT” in 1970 – and he made this album in the middle of what was considered his golden era. There is no doubt that he is one of the greatest guitarists ever, but he also managed to reinvent himself time again. Jimmy’s ability to reinvent himself is one reason why “Fender Blues” remains one of the most incredible guitar riffs ever. If Jimi Hendrix could do it, so can you!
- Neil Young
Neil Young was born in Ottawa, Canada, where his parents, both English, had emigrated with his grandparents when they immigrated to America. Neil Young is an American-born singer, songwriter, and performer. After moving to Los Angeles in the early 1960s, he joined Buffalo Springfield with Steve Stills, Richie Furay, and others. Although Neil Young has made numerous guest appearances on records and albums, he is best known as a solo artist.
Young’s album “Gypsy” (aka “Papal Time” or “Papal”) was released in 1970 and peaked at number 34 on the US album charts. The album was Neil Young’s first hit. He followed it up with hits such as “Mystery Train,” rocked and roll,” and “Hound Dog.” These hit singles led to Neil Young becoming a well-known figure on the rock and pop charts. Young has also made several other solo records, most notably “Rocky Mountain River,” “I am a slave,” “vacation,” and “Viola.”
Neil Young’s guitar playing became remarkably diverse over his lifetime. He would play the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. Neil Young has also played keyboards and sings lead for a variety of groups. With his guitar work, he has managed to create hits such as “Free: Here Today,” “Wish You Were Here,” and “I Forgot to Remember to Forget.” Some of these hit songs are notable for being Neil Young’s only guitar solos.

Eric Clapton has been in the rock music scene for a long time. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Eric Clapton moved to England when he was just a teenager. The guitarist has played and sung with several different groups throughout the years, including the Yardbirds, Cream, and The Rolling Stones. When he was a teenager, Clapton was arrested and charged with marijuana possession, but this charge was later dropped. Eric Clapton has become one of the most successful guitarists of all time, winning Grammys for his work with both The yard birds and Cream, and he continues to tour today.
Eric Clapton’s playing is noteworthy as he was one of the first guitarists to use effects pedals in their songs. On top of that, he also sang lead on many of his songs. Clapton has also made several movies in his career, including Collateral, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and A History of Blues. Eric Clapton has also worked with numerous other musicians, most notably Paul McCartney. Clapton later formed the band Queen, making them one of the world’s biggest brand names at the time.
Eric Clapton’s solo work is also notable. Besides “Layla,” which was covered by many artists, other tracks from his solo career include hits for songs such as “Tears in Heaven,” “I Want to Break Free,” and “after” from The Who’s latest album Tommy. The acoustic guitar work from Eric Clapton on “I Want to Break Free” is featured in numerous other songs, including a handful of chart-toppers. He has also recorded well-received albums with the Yardbirds, Cream, and Stones Throw. Clapton has even made cameos on songs by artists such as Rod Stewart and George Harrison.
